Press Release: It’s the Secret ALL Savvy Authors Know… Marketing Sells Books!

The 2012 Self-Publishing Survey by Taleist, of more than 1,000 authors who had self-published in the previous year, found the average income earned per author was $10,000, however more than 50% of respondents had only earned $500 or less from the sale of their books!

The reality of the growing trend in self-publishing is that only the top 10% of self-published authors earn 75% of the income.

It’s not all doom and gloom though with authors that had enlisted the help of editors, typesetters, designers and proof readers earning 34% more on average.

This October and November Book Marketing Coach, Rochelle Stone of Barefoot Basics will be running a free series of ‘Beyond the Manuscript’ seminars through the Sunshine Coast Libraries.

It’s important that authors see their self-publishing journey as a small business venture. In most cases, when they begin to create a structure for their book, the author is the greatest secret in their industry. The purpose of the ‘Beyond the Manuscript’ seminar is to demystify the book marketing and distribution journey that will ultimately guide the sales of their book.”

During the ‘Beyond the Manuscript’ seminar authors will be provided with insights into:

  1. Defining Their Book, Audience and Milestones
  2. Building Their Online Platform
  3. Establishing their Distribution Model
  4. Building Their Profile with PR & Publicity
  5. How to Monetise Their Book
  6. Developing Their Book Marketing Plan

Business & Baby On Board Q&A with Author Johanna Baker-Dowdell

Bio: As a child, Johanna always wanted to know what was happening in the world around her and asked lots of questions. Imagine her delight when she discovered you could make a career from sharing stories.

Johanna studied journalism and public relations at the University of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. She worked at several newspapers before trying her hand at marketing and public relations.

A four-year working holiday in the UK combined Johanna’s love of writing and marketing with travel, and inspired her to start her own business when returning to Australia in 2005. Since then Johanna has become a mum to two beautiful boys, who have added a new dimension to her life – and business – experiences.

Johanna built her freelance writing and public relations work into a business and launched Strawberry Communications in 2007. Strawberry Communications is based in Tasmania, Australia, and generates amazing publicity for SME clients around Australia and the world using Johanna’s ability to build relationships and tell a great story.

What is your motivation behind Business & Baby on Board? After starting my own business while at home caring for my eldest son (now 7), I decided to write Business & Baby on Board to help other women who are keen to try it for themselves. In the book I share the lessons I learnt first hand while starting my business as a new mother, along with lessons from a series of expert business mums, creating an informative how-to guide for women looking to plan, start and build a successful business.
