Diary of a Business Geek – Dear PayPal…

I am concerned that you don’t appreciate my time nor business as a small business owner.

I have been a loyal customer of yours since 2004, when I first established my ABN working under my name Rochelle Stone as both a jewellery designer and freelancer.

In 2011, with a renewed focus on my business I launched Barefoot Basics and updated my account to reflect my new business. With the business name registered and linked to my ABN.

In early August this year you took my money hostage, it may be a small amount to you, but to me – it is my phone & internet bill, printing costs, sourcebottle subscription and web hosting costs.

Upon renewing my business name on a National level, I patiently waited for my new certificate to arrive – this is still going to weeks away as I was told today – whilst providing you with every other detail you require, including my previous certificate and all papers that I have received from ASIC regarding the re-registration of my business name. All which detail the exact same information – my address, my name, my ABN and my business name. Today via email I was instructed it still isn’t enough, I quote

“Please provide the following documentation: The Certificate of Business Name Registration or Record of Registration for Business Name for Barefoot Basics. This must contain any/all registered trade names and be issued by the appropriate State/Territory government
entity/agency.”

Well, considering the original certificate has expired and the new National Business Names Register through ASIC’s is causing a delay in the new Certificates being provided, after waiting on hold for 30 minutes, I secured the Record of Registration for Business Name of Barefoot Basics. And submitted this online, the information provided in the Record of Registration provides you with the exact same details that have already been submitted.

Following up with yet another phone call, I am told despite what the email instructions state  – that I will need to provide the Business Name Registration Certificate or I have to spend $9 to download a report from the ASICs website (link below) to provide you with the same details included in every piece of business information already submitted.

It is a merry-go-round that never stops.

Here is the link to the details you need to verify that I am the owner of Barefoot Basics, and here is the ASIC Record of Registration of Business Name Barefoot Basics, which provides you with my full name, current address, ABN and the date of registration on a National Basis – the name was originally registered in QLD and expired in March as per the original Certificate provided and as discussed with your call centre team on numerous occasions.

I have wasted countless hours simply to provide you with the same information over and over and over again.

All which you have access to via a simple ASICs search.

Do the search, download my report and charge my PayPal account if need be – you pay your staff $25 per hour – I charge my clients a minimum of $50 per hour.

Shall I bill you for the $1,000+ in lost wages?

I may be a Sole Trader, but I have been a loyal customer, I deserve more respect.
